There are so many how to keep house clean tricks on TV and the internet that can help you tackle seemingly impossible chores, but one of the best things to remember for how to clean your house is to do it frequently. Instead of waiting for a big spring cleaning day, the best way to clean your house is to make a monthly list of what to clean in your house so that the dust and grime doesn’t build up. Having a clean house to come home to will make you feel more relaxed and rested at the end of the day. As you start to look around for what to clean in your house, add these common items to your household cleaning list.

1. Doorknobs

Probably the first thing you touch when you get home is a door knob, and while it probably isn’t dirty, it is likely pretty germy. With a strong household disinfectant and a rag, wipe down all the doorknobs on a weekly basis, especially during flu season.

2. Light Switches

Light switches are another commonly touched surface that should be on your household cleaning list. Because the switches are hooked up to wires, spray your household disinfectant onto a rag and not directly onto the switch.

3. Bed Pillows

While washing the sheets is probably already on your list for how to clean your house, most people don’t know that you can machine wash pillows too. For the best way to clean your house and pillows, be sure to read and follow the instructions on the pillow tags.

4. Bath Mats

One of the best tips to keep house clean and prevent the buildup of mold is to regularly wash your bath mat. If you have a cloth bath mat, hang it to dry after each use, and throw it into the weekly wash with your other towels. If you have a plastic or rubber mat, use household cleaning products to wipe it down every week.

5. Trash Cans

Even with a liner, trash cans are covered with germs and bacteria. Your monthly plan for how to keep house clean should include all the garbage cans from your home. For a quick and simple wash, take them outside, squirt some household cleaning products and soap on them, spray them with a hose, and leave them in the sun to dry. If they haven’t been cleaned in a while, you may need to use a rag to scrub them down.

6. Keyboards

The best household cleaning products to keep your computer keyboard from being filled with dust, crumbs, and germs are a compressed air blower and a simple household disinfectant. The best way to clean your house keyboard is to blow the dust and dirt out and then wipe it down with the disinfectant.

7. Toothbrush Holder

A commonly overlooked item that should be on your household cleaning list is your toothbrush holder. While you’re brushing your teeth, put a little sudsy water in the holder, and swirl it around. Doing this regularly will make figuring out how to clean your house a little simpler.

8. Baseboards

While this list for how much to clean a house may seem extensive, some things, like baseboards, only need to be cleaned once or twice a year. Before vacuuming, take some dusting spray and a rag, and wipe down your baseboards.

9. Refrigerator

Things spill and stink over time, which is why one of the best tips to keep house clean is to regularly wipe down your refrigerator. If you do this once a month, it’ll be quick and easy to keep it from getting sticky.

10. Oven

As you think about how much to clean a house and kitchen, keep in mind that ovens need to be regularly cleaned too. While some may have an auto-cleaning function, there are speciality cleaners for wiping out the burned on foods.

11. Fans

As you lie in bed thinking about what to clean in your house, you may notice the dust that’s built up on your overhead fan blades. One of the best tips to keep house clean while wiping dust off the fan is to use a pillow case. After spraying some dusting products on the blades, slip the pillow case around it to wipe it down. This will trap the dust in the pillow case so that it doesn’t fall all over the room.

Learning how much to clean a house can feel overwhelming, but as you break these areas and items down into weekly, monthly, and yearly lists, it’ll start to feel a little easier. Make these processes for how to keep house cleana regular habit, and it won’t all build up into one monster spring cleaning. Instead, you’ll be able to walk into a fresh home every day.
